Mr. & Mrs. Rice
As often happens this couple continued to deal with change. Steve asked us to help his Mom after his Father’s death to downsize some items and reset her apartment to her current needs. A few years later we moved her to Memory Care and then assisted the family with the final disposal of her furniture and personal items at her death. We became part of their family story and lives. The clients were a delightful couple moving from their home of 40+ years to an Assisted Living community nearby. We spent time working with each of them to figure out what to take and how to fit in some of her treasures and his stereo and vast CD collection, and to be sure we had what they needed and wanted. We arranged for repairs on some family heirlooms and also helped purchase a new bed.
Most important, we found hiding places for lots of storage containers to allow for the small closet space. Then we hosted an estate sale and arranged for the donation and clean out of the remaining items. We have visited several times with the clients, and the best gift for our team is seeing how well they have both adapted to their new community and how much fun they are having there.
Ada
Ada was referred to us by a close friend whom we had previously moved to Park Manor. She had a lovely new apartment already reserved, but needed help managing all the moving decisions, planning and packing. The APS Team worked with her family members and other vendors to create an enjoyable new livable residence for her. Ada was so amazed on how we professionally coordinated the process 一 both the unpacking and setup. The APS Team really enjoyed sharing lunches and stories with her. Ada was delighted, because when we were through, it truly felt like her home. She was very pleased with the end results and stated “that everything was perfectly coordinated with her belongings as well as being functional and visually appealing.” Her daughters assisted with the final stages of the project, including the disbursement of family items and furniture, so it was a true team effort.
Joyce W.
The APS team enjoyed working with Joyce and her son Steve. It was an interesting project because of Steve’s ebullient personality and enthusiasm for making his mom’s new home perfect, and for the careful placement of her art and treasures to make it seem familiar and be comfortable. Steve asked us to help him create that special environment and was beside us all the way. He had such fun making it beautiful and introducing her to her new community and home. When photographing her home, Joyce asked us to take her picture with her care partner, Ladonna, because she makes her life so much better every day. The photos tell the story…… Here is what her son Steve had to say about the experience: “I just want to say thank you to you and your team for doing a fantastic job handling my Mom’s move this year to Park Manor. As with any move, there is so much to do, but when you’re moving someone elderly from a place they’ve lived for over 30 years to a new environment and a new state, it can be a dramatic event. You made it so much easier for us all and I will always appreciate your hard work and that of your staff. From meeting with my Mom and being there throughout this entire ordeal, you and your staff made sure that my mother’s requests and questions were handled immediately and with such care. It was as if you were moving your own family. Since this was new for me as well, I do thank you for making both all of us feel at ease. As part of the project, Mom has some treasured pieces of art along with so many items from her travels throughout the world. It amazed me that not one item was damaged in any way; from all of her ‘chachkies’ to her clothes and photos, your staff did fantastic! You told me from the start that you were hands on for each and every move and I can see that. You were truly a lifesaver! So the best way to describe our feelings for the move…you can’t fix excellence! ”
Gordon and Reva J
We were contacted by Gordon and Reva J.’s daughter to help with a downsize and move from their dream retirement home to a local senior living community. The job was about an hour and a half from Nashville, so the schedule had to allow for travel time and working longer hours with each client to maximize our workdays. The clients were delightful to work with, but the amount of books papers and extra belongings was a challenge. We sorted through emails and photographs to assist their daughter with organizing important family archives. She only had weekends to spend on the project because of her full-time job and busy family schedule. The furniture plans and art and accessories were agreed upon and a few additional shelves were installed by the community for more storage for papers and books. The day of the move went smoothly and the finished product is very spacious and organized. They seem very happy in their new community making friends and enjoying the food and activities. T. Family Porch
This screen porch is recent project for a multi-generational family. Incorporating outdoor spaces into your home is a good way to add living space and great entertaining space. APS worked with this client on her kitchen renovation several years ago to open up their home. The new porch was Phase 2 of the project expanding off the kitchen living area. The family was thrilled with new screen porch and has also enjoyed the much needed storage space underneath.
J and B
Our clients, J and B, have experienced some health issues that necessitated renovating of their home of 50+ years. Their daughter Beth was referred to to our company and wanted us to help plan for the future of her parent’s home. At our first meeting it was apparent they needed to upgrade their master bathroom to be wheelchair accessible. More important was accessing the bathroom and bedroom suite which was three steps down from the main floor. We proposed an interior ramp from the kitchen to the lower bedroom entry. These changes entailed replacing the existing door and reversing the swing, so there would be an adequate turn space at the bottom of the ramp with an accessible exit from the house. The bathroom and closet area, which was a very tight space, was now designed for an accessible shower with a bench seat and hand held shower. A new comfort height toilet was installed to allow for a wheelchair. LED fixtures were placed in the bathing, vanity and closet areas for better visibility and safety. Heat lamps and heated floors in the bathroom were added along with extra storage. Along with new paint and carpet in the bedroom, the door into the bath and closet widened for accessibility. Joy
How in the world do you help someone who really doesn’t want your help? Here’s an example. Over a year and a half ago, the APS Team was asked by Joy’s son to declutter and downsize his mother’s home in preparation for her move to Traditions at Spring Hill. Joy was not joyful! To say the least, she was very resistant at the start of the project. She did not want us to come in and organize at all. But, over time she warmed up to the team and enjoyed the company and the process of putting her home in order. She really did not want to move either, and refused to let us pack her belongings. So, we worked with her for several weeks donating clothing, cleaning out old files, tossing old food and lots of mail and old papers. We recommended to her son that perhaps it was better not to push her to move right away. And, we suggested that maybe he could get her to agree to have a home health company come in for three or four days a week to help with meals, shopping and to keep the clutter down. After meeting the crew from Preferred Care in Hendersonville, Joy did agree to home healthcare, which allowed her to stay in her home until recently. Now she needs more medical oversight and has agreed to move to be near her son and family. The APS Team was also asked to help with this transition. After moving Joy in to her new home, we were leaving with with our supplies just as she and her son were walking in. They were very pleased and he sent us a photo of Joy enjoying her new home. Over the next month, continue to work on this project as we distribute items to family, sort items and have a moving sale and help to assist with getting the house ready to sale. Ms. Ann
A lovelier Southern lady has never been met than Ms. Ann. She was bubbly, funny, kind and a wonderful hostess for the whole APS Team as we worked to downsize her for her move to a new apartment in a nearby Nashville senior community. She always had chocolates in a bowl in the foyer for guests, served the team peach tea and goodies each day with their lunch, and moved gracefully from sorting and decision making to whatever task was at hand. We often felt like we were her guests rather than her working team! Her daughter had worked diligently to create furniture plans and placement for her art and accessories, but it was still a challenging task for the team. We had a lot of fragile things to pack and beautiful artwork to carefully move. Her kitchen was full of dishes and serving pieces for entertaining, all those had to be culled through and downsized to fit her new home. Clothing was organized and many items donated to the local This N That shop. She was trouper through the whole process. We especially enjoyed working side beside her daughter on arranging the new space to make it just like Ms. Ann would love. Her new home is a reflection of her genteel style and heritage because she chose to bring the beloved items that she uses every day. Ms. Ann hosts tea parties and bridge gatherings in her new residence and continues to do it in style. She has moved to be near old friends and even referred some those friends to Aging in Place Transition Services.
Miss P’s Bathroom
Our client, Miss P, is in her early eighties and expressed her desire to stay in her current home, but none of the bathrooms were accessible. Using a walker, sometimes a wheelchair, she was unable to enter the existing shower because of the narrow door and high curb. The bathroom was also subdivided into small rooms which made it very difficult to negotiate corners and turns. Our team was able to create a beautiful new bathroom with lots of additional storage to meet her needs. The gallery below shows the final results. Donna and William F.
Our job was to assist Donna with sorting and packing for the home for staging the home she and her husband were selling. We had multiple facets to this job including separating items for the daughter who lives nearby and the daughter who lives out of state. We packed china and family heirlooms for shipping. We also coordinated the shipping of those items and of a piano. The remaining items that were not moving with Donna and William had to be packed and moved to the garage to “clean up” for the real estate agent to list and sell the house. In the middle of our first week working on the project, they got the call informing them that the apartment they wanted was available. So, they decided to move before the sale of the house. Donna did a great job of handling much of the packing, while we worked around her getting things donated, delivered to trash or packed and put away for the estate sale. The move went smoothly, the agent was very happy with the “cleaned up” and “ready for sale” house, which sold quickly. The end results of the project are in the gallery below. Mary C.
Mary was making her second downsizing move and wanted the process to be smooth and stress free. She and her dog, Coco, were fun to work with and visit. Mary made her decisions quickly and we worked with her design team to coordinate her furniture plan and installations. She has beautiful artwork and we were able to include most in her new home. Her children received most of the remaining furniture and that made the downsizing process much simpler. She was very organized and worked well with our team conveying her choices. Move day would have been hectic, with so many locations, so we broke it into two days. The senior community was easy to work with and we had her unpacked and set up in two days. Her finished apartment is relaxed and comfortable, but elegant just like Mary.
Tom and Anne M.
Tom, who was living with Parkinson’s disease, wanted to get back some of his independence, and access to more of his normal world. In addition, this project was important to give his wife Anne some respite from worry about his safety and it provided space for him to maneuver in their home. Mrs. P
Mrs. P’s daughter had this to say after we helped her mother. “I was blown away by the sensitivity and professional standards of Sara Beth and her team. I had to move my mother from an apartment to a studio with much less space. Sara Beth ascertained which pieces of furniture were the most important to mom and where everything would fit most practically. She hung all the pictures and mirrors expertly. My mother loves her new space. The move was seamless for me. The APS team took out all the trash and loaded the donations for me. They are true, caring pros.”
Mr. Lynn
Mr. Lynn was leaving his home of 49 years as well as a lovely neighborhood full of friends and memories. His three sons contacted us to help with downsizing and with the move. We also managed the estate sale for the remaining items. After much work, sorting through family history, photos, and mementos of years of travel, and working with the sons to divide family heirlooms that he did not want to take with him; we set about settling him into his new “nest.” We moved him into the Blakeford, a lovely senior community near his home, and down the hall from his brother. He has a beautiful and comfortable apartment with a garden view and room for all his favorite things. Every time we visit him we meet someone who knows him and loves to share news of his family, church and a myriad of interesting stories. He is a true Southern gentleman, who is always ready for any task and will be a real asset to his new community.
Mac M.
Mac needed to downsize and also move to another state. This required coordination with the onsite project manager. Photos and measurements were taken by him onsite and his feedback was very helpful while sorting and planning. When the final furniture plans were completed, we tagged and photographed everything to make the unpack and setup process go smoothly.
Our inventory system also helped him to know where boxes should be unloaded, and how each room was to be accessorized. The client was very happy with the process and the results. Here are a few photos taken at his new apartment.
Miss Dorothy
As one of our favorite clients this year, Miss Dorothy had such a great attitude. She really enjoyed working with the Aging in Place team, even though we may have worn her out some days.
We did her initial move and downsize from her apartment of several years into independent living, but a few weeks later we were called to move her again to assisted living. She was cheerful and upbeat through the whole process and kept telling us she didn’t know how we did all of that! “ They helped me keep everything I wanted and found a place for everything – no stone unturned!” That is high praise indeed and it was joy.
P. Green
This was a major downsizing project. The client’s health was holding her back from doing what needed to be done, which was frustrating for a normally active and involved person. She was itching to get into everything, so that made the decision tasks so much easier for our team. It was a large house, full of memories and lots of stuff! The easy part was space planning the new condo with the main furniture and rugs she wanted to take. The hard part was the many choices of art and accessories and giving up so much of her gardening equipment, and hobby supplies. We made family gift choices fairly early and arranged for those to be either stored or picked up by family members. The final move went very smooth and the client seems very happy in her new home. T and H
This was a true aging in place renovation project. The 55+ clients were recently married and had bought their first home, and the one in which they could age together. The combining of two households to include hundreds of books, an extensive art collection, and furniture and accessories collected around the world was one of the biggest challenges. But the actual renovation of the main floor of the house included all the bathrooms, the kitchen and reconfiguring closets and storage. Our focus was to make the house work for them now and as they age and to make it uniquely theirs in character and design. Inevitably both had to comprise and give up a few pieces of furniture or accessories as the design developed. T is an avid shopper and did a great job of locating that “find” that fit the budget and added their personalities to the space. It was a team effort and included a lot of conference calls with H (who as out of state during the construction) and weekly meetings with the contractor to coordinate schedules. It was a great experience for all of us and the final product is just what we were all aiming for — a home that fits their needs now and as they age and is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. As the designer and the Aging in Place team manager, we were involved from the demolition to the unpack and setup of their new home. Dr. R
The client is a retired professor and had an extensive library, travel memorabilia and an active lifestyle. She needed an office in her new apartment and lots of storage for her books and artifacts. She had several pieces of furniture, artwork and accessories that we needed to sell. Since she did not want to have a moving sale, we placed those items with a local consignment company. Her final furniture plan used all the important pieces she wanted to keep and gave her plenty of room to add some newfound treasures from her future travels.
M. Lord
The Aging in Place team downsized and moved M. from Bowling Green Kentucky to an independent living community in Atlanta Georgia. We were contacted by her daughter and subsequently worked with the senior move managers in Atlanta to create a floor plan using the furniture she wanted to keep. Then the team assisted in selecting a mover, packed her household items, and supervised the movers. She is now happily downsized and enjoying her new community.

M. and J. Mehr
What a fun couple and a fast schedule! M. and J. sold their house in 1 day and we had 30 to sort, pack and move them and conduct an estate sale to clear the remaining items. All hands on deck was our mantra and M. and J. joined the fray. We had lots of fun sorting through their treasures and still managed to finish on time. Their new garden villa is spacious and full of light and their “downsized” home has everything they needed and wanted in just the right places. They are both enjoying the freedom of having” less” to have more time to spend with friends and family, exercise classes, and a full schedule of activities. The 3-day estate sale was phenomenal and included a friends and family preview night which was a great success with their neighbors and church.
D. Blume
This is an unusual three part story; D was planning to be overseas for a while and wanted to store her worldly goods, so we packed and inventoried and moved all to storage. Her return was sooner than expected and she had to move into a temporary condo, and less than 60 days later we moved her again. All during this time she was so delighted to have “her crew” taking care of things and making everything feel like home. We all enjoyed the process and were so glad to see her back and happy and settled. We also enjoyed her photos and stories of her journey. Welcome home D!
R. & J. Campbell
This was a BIG project! There were so many facets to this job and the clients needed every skill set we had as a team. Sorting, organizing, planning furniture, art and accessories, as well as lighting plans and specifications, selecting custom rugs, purchasing of new furniture, packing, unpacking and set up … our design skills came in handy. In addition to their possessions, we also had to sort and pack two shipments for in and out of state to their children and coordinate with movers for three separate shipments. We all became fast friends in the flurry and R & J kept their humor through all of it! A great success story and one that the APS team is proud to complete.

We met in Knoxville a few weeks before and worked out a plan for both sides of the move, but their family really wanted to help them with the packing. So the Aging in Place team met the movers on the Nashville end and set to work! We didn’t know everything that was arriving, but I had photographed the existing furniture, so we quickly got the furniture in place and then worked with the clients on setting up the office, bedroom and study to meet their individual needs. The creation of art galleries and her library study décor from their travels was a lot of fun and a great way to hear all their stories. What a fun couple!

A true Southern lady with a beautiful home filled with art, fine furniture and years of memories. Harry Lee and her daughters were an extraordinary collaborative force. Furniture selections and art placement were perhaps the hardest task because there were so many beautiful choices. The girls worked tirelessly to sort through the family papers and personal items, while the APS team packed and coordinated the effort, the final result is a reflection of Harry Lee’s personality and taste and is both comfortable and elegant
Rebecca
An Executive move for a former client, who is an young aging adult! Relocating from Nashville to another southern city in a gated golf community, their new home is a very different open floor plan from their last traditional home. APS space planning was essential before the move to inventory items for the move and distribute others to sell or donate. The client has a strong sense of color which results in very bold unusual palettes which flow through the house and connect the spaces. We made several trips to assist in the placement of art and accessories after the unpack to unveil this beautiful inviting place to live.
D. Samuels
This is a true aging in place project creating a user friendly space that will work for the client as she nears retirement age. The master bath was created from spaces formerly used as the laundry and mechanical space. The new design offers an accessible shower with decorative grab bars, a shower seat and an additional hand held shower option. The master bedroom’s furniture arrangement and refurbishing was part of the overall project in blending the new spaces. An addition off the existing kitchen includes a new laundry room with an on demand water heater system, a new pantry to allow for storage of larger cooking utensils (she is an avid cook and gardener) and a small covered porch that allows views of her garden and easy access from the garage.
Terry
Our long time friend and client inherited the family home and asked us to coordinate the sorting, organizing and repurposing of the families’ treasures, and plan and coordinate the renovation of the house into a functional and aging appropriate space. With a new kitchen that his Mom would have loved and an additional sunroom where everyone gathers to watch the sunset and gaze at the marshes, the renovation was complete. The long hours of sorting and retelling of life stories were rewarding for all of us, and the client and family were especially gratified to see how we placed special items and kept the sense of place they had always known and loved.
P. Buzzell
This project was a major downsize and move on a very tight schedule due to the sale of the client’s home on the first day of listing! Aging in Place teams worked closely with the family in determining the selection of furniture for her new villa and separation of items for family or to sell. We worked quickly to coordinate a massive estate sale during the holiday week of July 4th. The remaining items were sorted and delivered to a variety of donation sites and the move was on. Patti was a sea of calm through the whole process and her companion, faithful Louie, became best friends with our entire crew. We stop to visit both often when in her new community, and she seems very settled and happy in her new home.
